We choose to breed Golden Retrievers and Poodles for a reason. The purebred version of these breeds have common health issues. When bred together we get to keep the attributes we like such as hypoallergenic features, but cancel out a lot of the health issues through hybrid vigor found in the puppies. This creates the lovable goldendoodle.
An F1 Goldendoodle is the result of crossbreeding between a Poodle and Golden Retriever. An F1B Goldendoodle is the result of crossbreeding a F1 Goldendoodle and a Poodle. This means the puppies will be %75 Poodle and %25 Golden Retriever. The results are a predictable 40-60 pound, fluffy wavy to curly coat, with very minimal to no shed and more hypoallergenic than our F1 Goldendoodle friend.
According to Dr. Stanley Coren's book "The Intelligence of dogs" Out of the top 10 smartest dogs ranked, Poodles rank the #2 Smartest breed and Golden Retrieves rank the #4 smartest breed. So we can assume the goldendoodle would rank in between their parents. We have some really smart puppies on our hands!
F1B Goldendoodles are a very predictable generation. The puppies will grow to look like a distinct Goldendoodle. In other words, a cute fluffy living teddy bear <3
Many doodles vary in size. We specifically breed Standard Goldendoodles. This mean your new pup is going to weigh between 40-60 pounds (Females a generally lighter than males). You are going to have the perfect weighted blanket during snuggle time when the puppies are all grown up.
According to PNAS.org, Hybrid vigor is the increase in stature, biomass, and fertility that characterizes the progeny of crosses between diverse parents. Meaning that the F1B is superior to the better of the two parents.
This is great news for our goldendoodle puppies!
Yes, you can bathe a puppy at home. This is a normal part of goldendoodle care. We recommend a nice dog shampoo and maybe even a conditioner. After bath time be sure to dry puppy all the way with your hair dryer or velocity dryer so your puppy doesn't tangle or matt up. This will also ensure the puppies smell their best! In Conway, the Tractor Supply has a self bathing station. This may be helpful for you and the puppy.
The goldendoodle breed is very intelligent and training often comes easily. We recommend you enroll your puppy into an obedience or training course. These can be found at many pet-stores and are very affordable in the Myrtle Beach area. After your puppy has graduated, be sure to keep up with their training at home. Here at Poodle Doodle World all of our puppies have already gone through ENS and Sensory Education, so further training will come naturally to them.
If you jump onto Tik Tok or Instagram you will see that everyone is dressing up their puppies! Even the big ones! I find that our 40IBS poodle fits most larges and our 60IBS goldendoodle fits most extra larges. I have noticed that Walmart and PetSmart have started selling these larger sizes in the Myrtle Beach area, letting your large fur baby get into this fun-filled action.
The puppies are ready to go home once they are 8 weeks old! At this point in time they will have received their first rounds of Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus (DHPP), De-worming, and their Microchip. When you take your goldendoodle puppy home vet care continues. They will need 2 more rounds of DHPP Shots every 3 weeks. They will also need their Rabies vaccine. Afterwards your puppy will go through annual check-ups. Most Vet's offer a puppy package, so be sure to ask about that. Poodle Doodle World uses the Waccamaw Vet Located In Conway, the staff is always wonderful and they don't charge and arm and a leg.
Here at Poodle Doodle World, we feed our goldendoodle puppies "4Health with wholesome grains large breed puppy lamb formula". If you stick with this puppy food we recommend to feed this until your puppy is 10-12 months old. Once the puppy is ready for adult food we stick with the 4Health brand and choose whatever flavor we think our dog will like best. 4Health dog food is fortified, has immune-supporting antioxidants, has probiotics for digestive support, and supports joint, skin, and coat health. We have found that it is similar to science diet, but much cheaper and they offer grain-free recipes. We get our dog food from our local Tractor Supply located in Conway, SC
Your new fluffy pup is going to need a lot of grooming. Start puppy very young when it comes to grooming care. You want your dog to become very comfortable with the grooming process. This will not only create a less stressful environment for your goldendoodle, but this will help keep your dog safer and less likely to be involved in grooming accidents. At 8 weeks you can get an introductory puppy cut in salons. This is typically referred to as a "Face, Feet and Fanny cut". After 1 or two puppy cuts your puppy is ready for his/her first big pup cut. Your puppy will need regular grooming every 4-8 weeks (Depending on hair length). Sticking with a particular groomer can help you and your dog feel more comfortable.
